Delta Airlines is testing (http://news.yahoo.com/s/cmp/20080621/tc_cmp/208800035) out a new boarding pass system which would allow customers to use their cell phones for flight check-in. Internet-enabled phones are capable of downloading an electronic boarding pass directly to the handset. The phone could then be scanned by security and gate check-in so that customers would board their planes without having to go through the initial check-in lines when they first get to the airport. If this plan is successful, the airline hopes to move forward with upgrades that include text message check-in and mobile phone standby services.
